Nyquist
Uncle Mo - Seeking Gabrielle by Forestry
Nyquist is a notable American Thoroughbred racehorse who achieved significant success in the mid-2010s. Foaled in 2013, he was bred by Summerhill Farm and trained by Doug O’Neill for owner J. Paul Reddam.
Nyquist’s career was marked by early and impressive accomplishments. As a two-year-old in 2015, he won all five of his starts, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, which earned him the Eclipse Award for Champion Two-Year-Old Male. His success continued into his three-year-old season in 2016, when he won the Florida Derby and then the Kentucky Derby, maintaining his undefeated record through eight races. This Kentucky Derby victory was particularly significant as it made Nyquist the eighth undefeated winner in the race’s history and the first horse to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby in consecutive years. However, his bid for the Triple Crown fell short when he finished third in the Preakness Stakes. Nyquist’s career concluded later that year with a total of eight wins from 11 starts. While his career was relatively short, Nyquist’s early dominance and Kentucky Derby win secured his place among the notable racehorses of his era. After retirement, he began a career as a breeding stallion, passing on his speed and precocity to future generations of racehorses.
