Affirmed

Exclusive Native - Won't Tell You by Crafty Admiral

Affirmed was an exceptional American Thoroughbred racehorse who achieved lasting fame in the late 1970s. Foaled in 1975, he was bred by Harbor View Farm and trained by Laz Barrera. Affirmed’s greatest accomplishment came in 1978 when he became the 11th horse to win the American Triple Crown, capturing the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. His Triple Crown victory was particularly memorable due to his intense rivalry with Alydar, who finished second in all three races, making their contests some of the most exciting in racing history.

Beyond his Triple Crown triumph, Affirmed had a stellar racing career. He was named Horse of the Year in both 1978 and 1979, and he remains the last Triple Crown winner of the 20th century. Affirmed won 22 of his 29 starts, including several other major races such as the Santa Anita Derby and the Hollywood Gold Cup. Known for his courage and determination on the track, Affirmed was also successful against older horses, a rare feat for a three-year-old. After retiring from racing, he had a successful career as a breeding stallion, siring numerous stakes winners and influencing the breed. Affirmed’s legacy as one of the greatest racehorses in American history is secure, not just for his Triple Crown win, but for his overall brilliance and his legendary rivalry with Alydar.
